Rehabilitation and Desistance from Crime by University of Glasgow
Course Description:

This course aims to develop critical understandings of (1) concepts of offender rehabilitation and their contested roles within theories and practices of punishment and (2) research about desistance from crime and its relationship to theories and practices of offender rehabilitation
By the end of this module students should be able to:
- Critically assess the place of rehabilitation within the philosophy and sociology of punishment
- Recognize and critique the arguments for and against rehabilitation as a penal strategy and practice
- Identify and critically compare a range of theories and practices associated with rehabilitation, taking account of their social, historical and jurisdictional contexts
- Review and assess research evidence about desistance from crime
